Same DNA, new generation
Our flagship, our great all arounder, fun and simple to ride, the Shan 5 gets a full revamp! Not only it is now manufactured in Andorra in our premises but we pushed the threshold and make it even more performant.
This new Shan 5 is the epitome of a process initiated 3 years ago. A process born together with Forestal and our will to build our production tool.
For this new iteration and to remain loyal to the DNA of the Shan N5 we adopted a multi-material approach.
As usual we make extensive use of steel. Given the particular material properties of our MCS 4130 heat treated steel we can achieve excellent mechanical performances to weight ratio for the front triangle.
However, we looked at how to improve the already excellent dynamics characteristics of the frame and through a detailed analysis from mechanical performance by way of cost to reliability we decided to go for a carbon composite swingarm.
Our engineering knowledge at Forestal Group on carbon composites allowed us to design a swingarm near half of the weight of its predecessor while maintaining and improving the dynamics characteristics of the frame.
The benefits are multiple, less unsprung weight means a more dynamic suspension and our custom lay-up of carbon fiber allowed us to refine the exact stiffness we wanted for the frame.
So not only the bike feels lighter but it’s also more dynamic. This resulted in increasing the range of actuation of the frame, making it even more pedaleable than before while maintaining the downhill performances.
*All frame orders include an injected TPU chainstay protector by default.
THE ALLIANCE OF STEEL AND CARBON
A fine combination of high strength steel and Carbon composites allowed us to optimise the dynamics characteristics of the chassis.
The front triangle is made of our 4130 CrMo MCS steel with impeccable strength, high levels of elasticity and fatigue resistance meanwhile we engineered a carbon swingarm which reduces by half the weight of the previous generation. Tailor made lamination of T700 and T800 allowed us to reach the right amount of flex. Less unsprung weight means a more dynamic ride.
R.KTP SUSPENSION OPTIMISATION
The 140mm of R.KTP suspension has been developed across 2 areas: A single-pivot suspension system reduces maintenance to a bare minimum. Suspension can therefore be adjusted for sensitivity from the start and ensuring that 100% of the available travel is used without bottoming out. Lateral constraints are isolated from the shock, ensuring optimal cornering sensitivity and function.
MADE IN ANDORRA
The new Shan 5 is the first stepping stone on our mission to produce the finest bikes here in Andorra via a subtle balance of agility, craftsmanship and technologically advanced processes.
Serious studies demonstrate a bike is 20% faster when the artwork pays tribute to Bob Hannah and Kenny Roberts steeds.
All of our frames are painted in our facility in Andorra with solvent free paint systems.
