Production Privée Shan No6 - a new direction!
9 years ago, that’s right, 9 years! Almost a decade ago, we introduced the world to our first-ever full-suspension bike. The Shan No5 took our love of steel frames and playful handling, and upped the capability by adding a neat single-pivot suspension system into the mix. The original Shan No5 was manufactured completely from steel and was launched at a time when 27.5in wheels still ruled the trail.
Over the years, the Shan No5 has evolved, first with a move to 29in wheels and then more recently with a shift from a steel rear end to a custom carbon rear triangle, which helped us dial in the dynamics while retaining that playful feel we want from the No5. This is our aggressive trail bike after all, a bike that plays with the terrain, opens up corners, lives for off camber, and rewards you with a playful and dynamic ride characteristic.
With its aggressive geometry and easy-to-service single pivot suspension, the Shan No5 perfectly suits the trails we ride most of the year, here around Andorra.
For us, the Shan No5’s ability to be playful and not filter the terrain is the very reason it has remained a popular choice for almost 10 years, but as the years have progressed, so have riders' abilities, the terrain they ride, and the limits they want to push.
And it’s for these riders that the Shan No6 was designed for! Riders who demand speed, precision, and full commitment above all else. Riders who want to stay on the gas, trust their line, and push themselves to the maximum and beyond.
The Shan No6 shares a lot of the same ingredients as the Shan No5. A slender, hand-welded steel front triangle, mated to a carbon rear triangle, yet the two bikes couldn’t be more different. Built to offer a noticeably stiffer chassis, one that rewards aggression and unlocks more speed the harder the rider pushes into the terrain, combined with a linkage suspension system, that gives us greater control over the kinematics.
Full speed commitment requires confidence and control, which is why the Shan No6’s geometry has been chosen to keep the rider as central as possible. A longer rear centre, together with the overall wheelbase, delivers stability at speed and a rock-solid feel when the terrain gets rough, combined with a front end that’s perfectly proportioned to keep you centred, balanced, poised, and ready to attack every corner.
While not a pure race bike, the Shan No6 offers the performance, composure, and pace of an enduro race weapon, and with an adjustable lower shock mount, riders can choose to run their ride in full 29in or mullet, with only minimal changes to the geometry and suspension curve.
There’s still a lot we have to reveal about the Shan No6, but we hope that this small introduction whets your appetite. Frames will be going into production soon, and we will be releasing more details soon.
Stay tuned!
